New Star Wars prequel quietly makes Mace Windu even cooler

Mace Windu is a powerful Jedi and a fan-favourite character for many, and while he’s also quite a horrible person one cannot deny that he’s incredibly cool.

He’s even cooler now that a new Star Wars prequel, Star Wars: Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss, has given us a deeper glimpse into his true powers.

Mace Windu’s last appearance in the films was Revenge Of The Sith, take a look at the teaser trailer if you’re feeling nostalgic

If you didn’t know already, Mace Windu is one of the few Jedi who uses a little bit of the Dark Side in his lightsaber duels. It’s called Vaapad and it’s unique to him, and involves channelling dark emotions without letting them consume you entirely.

Mace Windu isn't who we thought he was

While you may think this makes Mace a steadfast Jedi who never lets his emotions control his actions, you’d be wrong, as it turns out he had a secret love much like Anakin Skywalker, one that probably led to his inevitable downfall at the wrinkly hands of Palpatine.

In the prequel book, one excerpt reads "Because Mace, too, has an attachment. Mace has a secret love. Mace Windu loves the Republic."

Because Mace held the Republic in such high-regard it’s likely he would have done anything to prevent its destruction, which explains why he was so quick to turn to murder when he “defeated” Palpatine in a duel.

Now Palpatine probably would have thrown him out a window regardless but if Mace has thought more about the Jedi code than the fate of the Republic if Palpatine lives, Anakin may not have attacked in desperation to prevent the Sith lord’s death.

All of this is What-If material of course, as the events of Revenge Of The Sith would have probably played out the same way with Anakin so far gone, but it’s food for thought.

So it turns out the all-powerful Jedi Mace Windu had a weakness after all, and it actually makes him cooler.
