Scary Movie 6 officially announced

Is this really 2024, because it feels a whole lot like the early 00s again now that a new Scary Movie film has been announced.

We can scarcely believe it ourselves, but after 11 years without a new film from this franchise we’re finally getting a new addition.

Some may question whether this is a wise decision.

The films, while not a roaring success with critics, proved hugely successful with cinema goers.

When the first film was released, it amassed over $42 million, which was the first time an R-rated horror from a black director had hit such a milestone.

Even though the franchise continued after that, once the Wayans Brothers left the quality of the comedy seemed to drop off somewhat.

This isn’t to say that the next three films were bad, just that they felt noticeably different.

It’s been 18 years since the Wayans Brothers were involved, but now they’re back with an original screenplay for Scary Movie 6.

Speaking to Deadline about this announcement, the brothers said, “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again.

“This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again.”

If you still need convincing that this isn’t all a fever dream, Marlon Wayans posted about their return on his Instagram in true Wayans fashion.

Many new horror films have been released since the last time the brothers created one of these movies, so there’s a lot of material they can utilise to hit their comedic stride once more.

We hope it's a return to the glory days of the series when Scary Movie 6 releases; it would be a nice surprise.
