Marvel is teaming up with an unlikely ally to serve up some new Deadpool content, in celebration of their annual “April ‘Pools Day” event.

Fans of collecting expensive cardboard and Marvel’s most loveably annoying anti-hero are in for a treat this April Fool’s Day, because the Magic: The Gathering card game is getting a brand new release centered around everyone’s favourite Merc With a Mouth.

MTG’s offshoot Secret Lair and Marvel just announced their new Deadpool: April 'Pools Day set, which features five brand new cards emblazoned with Wade Wilson’s mug.

The new set has four alternative, special illustration variants of pre-existing Magic: The Gathering cards, and one completely new card.

MCU fans, Thunderbolts* is only one month away.

The new card, simply titled "Deadpool, Trading Card", is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek, fourth wall-breaking play on a specific MTG mechanic (in classic Deadpool style).

The “Trading Card” part of the card is a bit more on the nose than you might have assumed at first glance, as that part of the title actually refers to Deadpool’s effect.

Once played, Deadpool will copy another card’s effect and replace it with his own (and his own effect causes the player to lose three life during each of their turns).

I would say that sounds busted, but I’ve seen enough MTG cards in my time to know that a pretty sizeable chunk of the cards in the game are busted.

The other four cards are just variants of other MTG cards, but with some special Deadpool art pasted over the top. The cards included are Saw In Half, Deadly Rollick (which features a cameo from Cable), Blasphemous Act (which shows Wade wielding the Infinity Gauntlet) and Vandalblast.

Surprisingly, you can still actually purchase these for yourself on the Secret Lair website as there appears to be some stock left. Could be a fun little gift for the Marvel fan in your life, even if they don’t love MTG.
