Marvel quietly cancels major MCU film right under our noses

It's probably the one you were expecting to be cancelled

According to a leak, an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film has been cancelled– and you’ll probably be unsurprised to hear which MCU film that is.

Thank you in advance to GameRant's Catherine Armecin Martin for the original story.

The Playlist’s Rodrigo Perez just shared an update regarding the cancellation of the MCU film Blade starring Mahershala Ali.

“I'm told the rumours that 'John Wick' filmmaker Chad Stahelski could take over the franchise are incorrect. In fact, the creative direction of Blade has totally shifted,” Perez revealed in a post on Twitter.

“While Mahershala Ali is still attached all these years later, despite some of the talk that he was being difficult about approving scripts, from what I’m hearing the Blade movie is essentially nixed for now.”

However, while Perez did note that the movie itself has been “scrapped”, he did also state that Disney supposedly still have plans to introduce Mahershala Ali’s Blade at some point down the line in a different film.

Thunderbolts* is the MCU's next film.

Of course, this is only a rumour with a single source, so I think it’s more than fair to question its legitimacy at this point in time.

However, it does make a lot of sense. I think Disney are betting a lot on their upcoming MCU films, given the somewhat disappointing performance of some recent films in the franchise (such as Captain America: Brave New World and The Marvels).

I think that there could be some truth to this, but it doesn’t mean we’ll never see Mahershala Ali’s Blade. Disney likely just want to see if some of their bigger upcoming projects, such as Avengers: Doomsday and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, bring in the numbers they’re expecting first.

Besides, if that long-rumoured Midnight Sons film does become a reality, I can’t think of a better way to truly introduce Blade to the MCU.
