Marvel's new Avengers lineup is a big hit with fans: 'I want this to be awesome'

Ultron as ... an Avenger?

Marvel Comics has debuted a new Avengers line-up, and it’s certainly one that’s set to shake things up.

Yes, I know that we’re all desperate to find out what’s happening with the MCU’s Avengers but I’m afraid we’re going to have to remain patient.

The group isn’t set to return until 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday and while there are rumours about who’ll be the film’s key players - Scarlet Witch being one of the oft-touted names - there’s no real evidence to say who’ll be making the team this time around.

We need not feel deprived in the meantime though.

The MCU is bringing us a team-up in the form of Thunderbolts* which is set to land next year and, of course, there’s a wealth of stories to be consumed in the world of Marvel Comics.

And today, it’s the newly released West Coast Avengers #1 that I want to draw your attention to.

Take a look at the trailer for the aforementioned Thunderbolts* below.

The first issue of West Coast Avengers has dropped confirming a brand-new line-up that’s totally unexpected.

Why? Well supervillain Ultron is a key member of the team, joined by Iron Man, War Machine, Firestar, and Spider-Woman.

“Ultron returns…redeemed? Iron Man and War Machine have put together a new team of Avengers – one that includes villains seeking a path to redemption,” the synopsis teases.

“Their case study? Ultron - who, against all odds, seems to be walking the straight and narrow… for now. But does the success of one guarantee the success of all? Spider-Woman and Firestar have their doubts. And can any amount of heroics really absolve Ultron of his past?”

Written by Gerry Duggan, West Coast Avengers #1 features art by Danny Kim with cover art from Ben Harvey - and fans are really optimistic about what they see.

“I really want this to be awesome,” wrote Reddit user 1Judge.

“Definitely want to check this out purely for something, anything, being done with Ultron, but I thought Duggan’s Iron Man was a little eh, so I’m feeling cautious,” added GalaxyGuardian.

I’m dubious about whether someone like Ultron can be redeemed but I suppose that means this comic has well and truly captured my attention.
