The Star Wars universe has grown once again with the release of the new series, The Acolyte. The six-part prequel premiered on 4 June. But if you’re wondering how to watch it or who will be starring in it, we’ve put together everything you need to know about the latest Star Wars instalment.

The first two episodes of The Acolyte drop on 4 June.

How to watch The Acolyte

Here in the UK – and across the world – there’s only one place that you can watch The Acolyte and that is Disney+. If you don’t already have a subscription for the streaming platform, there are a few different plans to choose from.

The most affordable option, at £4.99 a month, allows you to watch hundreds of television shows, movies, animations and documentaries on two devices at the same time, but it does include ads. If you don’t want ads to interrupt your viewing, the Disney+ Standard plan comes without ads costs £7.99 or £79.99 (a saving of £15.89) if you pay annually. This specific plan also comes with the added benefit of being able to download your favourite movies or TV shows on up to 10 devices.

And lastly, there’s the Disney+ Premium plan. While it has all the benefits of the Standard plan, it also allows you to stream on four devices at once and supports 4K UHD & HDR video, compared to the standard 1080p Full HD video. The Premium plan costs £10.99 a month or £109.99, if you pay annually (which saves you £21.89, as opposed to paying monthly).

No matter which plan you choose, you can tune into shows like The Acolyte on a range of phones, tablets, laptops, smart TVs, games consoles and streaming sticks via the Disney+ app, or you can watch via a web browser, if you prefer.

Amandla Stenberg plays a Padawan warrior in the series.

Who stars in The Acolyte?

You might recognise quite a few famous faces when you tune into the first episode. Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae plays the respected Jedi Master Sol, as he investigates a string of murders. While Dafne Keen, who starred in His Dark Materials, Charlie Barnett, who many will know from playing Peter Mills on Chicago Fire and Russian Doll’s Rebecca Henderson, portray members of the Jedi order. Amandla Stenberg, who you may have seen in Bodies Bodies Bodies and The Hunger Games, plays a former Padawan in the series.

How does The Acolyte relate to the existing Star Wars universe?

Those who’ve watched the animated Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures or picked up a Star Wars comic or novel over the years might be aware of The High Republic. But if you’re not, The Acolyte is set approximately 100 years prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace.

And according to Disney, “an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg).” As clues start to emerge, all is not what it seems.
