Harry Potter reboot quietly rejects 42-year-old man's Hermione audition

The wizarding world just isn't ready for that... yet

Starring in the new Harry Potter series is undoubtedly a dream many aspiring young actors have. And apparently, its the dream of one 40 something year old man too.

When HBO announced an open casting call for the roles of Hermione, Ron, and Harry in September 2024, over 30,000 audition tapes were sent in response.

Among them was an audition from a 42 year old man trying out for the part of Hermione Granger.

As per CBR, referencing the original story from The Daily Mail, teams of casting agents have been shifting through thousands of auditions each day.

Typically, the age range for the lead roles has been between 9 and 11 years old.

Unsurprisingly, the man who tried his luck (and remains unnamed, at least for now) hasn’t been successful in his bid to play Hermione.

When you watch the trailer for the first Harry Potter film, you can understand why this hopeful star was rejected

Currently, no actors – for the lead roles or otherwise – have been confirmed as part of this Harry Potter reboot.

That said, there are plenty of rumours circulating that are attempting to narrow down who’s in the running for which role.

The most recent speculation that’s sent fans into overdrive is that HBO’s Dumbledore has been found.

Nothing has been officially confirmed, however, the gossip is enough fuel new discussions among fans. And discourse too.

One source of heated debate is Cillian Murphy’s purported role in the show.

Due to HBO’s commitment to sourcing “some of the finest British talent”, these kind of decisions take time.

Still, development of the show is said to be moving at a steady pace as HBO continues to try and be as “faithful” to the books as possible.

Understandably, this means that casting agents have to make tough calls and turn down 42 year old men for the role of Hermione.

Maybe one day we’ll catch a glimpse of what the wizarding world would be like with that version of Hermione, but now isn’t the time.
