Harry Potter HBO reboot Voldemort dream casting unites fans: 'I see it'

As the casting news of the HBO Harry Potter adaptation starts to pick up steam, fans are wondering who the key members of the cast will be.

The golden trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron are, of course, the most anticipated casting, but Harry Potter fans are eager to see who will be playing the ‘big bad’ of Lord Voldemort.

The role of Voldemort is almost as important as the hero trio, but who will play the villain?

While there is no official news on who will be taking on the villainous role, fans have been suggesting their ideal actors over on Reddit, with one particular name leading the way.

A thread, created by Apprehensive-Tax258, puts forward the name of Michael Fassbender to play the role of Voldemort.

In it, they say, “I feel like he has got it all,” and state that he physically matches the descriptions of Voldemort from the books, while also bringing some extra star power.

“I hadn’t thought of him, but I could definitely see it!” exclaimed DALTT in the top reply.

Fassbender has appeared in a variety of roles across his career, but in recent years has favoured projects away from pop culture.

Would he want to star in such a role? And for TV, rather than film?

It’s a question a few are asking, with LittleEarthquake1010 saying, “I agree with this, he certainly has the acting chops, but I don’t think he’d gravitate towards this kind of project.”

Of course, it’s not just a TV role in popular culture, the Harry Potter brand holds a lot of weight, however, any actor signing on with HBO will have to give over 10 years of their lives to the project.

“This would be amazing,” says another fan, while another doubts that the actor would put his name down, saying, “I doubt he’d sign up for that, but he’d nail it.”

Perhaps the casting of Voldemort will be announced alongside the golden trio, sometime this year.
