Harry Potter fans divided over 'book-accurate' Voldemort redesign for new series

There is no denying that the Harry Potter movies deserved the praise they received over the years, and with many of us growing up alongside the magical world, it would make sense that a lot of our memories are tinted with nostalgia.

The Harry Potter books and movies are as loved now as they were back in the early 2000s which is why it is no surprise that HBO and Warner Bros. are teaming up to release a reboot tv show in 2026.

As a result, fans have been speculating as to which famous faces could take on some of the iconic roles. However, it is no easy feat with the original cast being as beloved as they are.

At the time of writing, we only have confirmation of one actor who will be joining the cast and it is none other than John Lithgow in the role of Albus Dumbledore.

As for the rest of the characters, we are still in the dark and that goes for none other than Voldemort himself.

Portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in the original movie series, HBO has yet to announce who will be taking over from him but for one fan, they hope that this reboot will give the Dark Lord a more book-accurate look.

“Anyone else hoping that future HBO remakes get Voldemort right?” they asked.

“Personally, I thought they missed the mark for Voldemort in the movies. He never seemed menacing to me, and didn’t quite match what the books illustrated. My best guess is that it was the closest practical effect, without going full CGI… I’m really hoping for a more daunting Voldemort that actually strikes fear and is radiating power. Red eyes, shallow face, etc. Anyone else think this too, or am I out of bounds?”

User DALTT commented, “I really loved Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort. That said, there’s, of course, room for improvement. I definitely think part of it was so much Voldemort material getting cut which made him feel less fleshed out. This said, I definitely agree with the visual representation of him needing improvement. I think it’s a fine line between what’s in the book and him starting to look too much like a Marvel villain. To me he should almost look alien-like.”

However, another user appreciated Fiennes portrayal.

“Voldemort is supposed to be physically very frail, being described as 'tall and skeletally thin', his body 'feeble and shrunken'. His portrayal was perfect in the first movie, sinister, cloaked, and hooded.”

It remains to be seen what Voldemort’s new look will be but there is no denying, the actor chosen will have some big shoes to fill.

Well, if Voldemort wore shoes that is.
