Harry Potter fans just realising only 1 House never produced any dark wizards

Every Harry Potter fan knows that being placed in Slytherin has some negative connotations, courtesy of all the dark wizards who have stemmed from the Hogwarts house.

After all, there is a reason that even Harry, who has limited knowledge about the wizarding world at the start of the series, pleads with the Sorting Hat not to be placed in Slytherin.

Head back to the beginning with the trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone below!

The snake-themed Hogwarts house was doomed as soon as it was revealed that Tom Riddle, later Voldemort, had been placed in it and not to mention a large quantity of his Death Eaters too.

Both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw have also been home to some dark wizards including Peter Pettigrew and Quirinus Quirrell respectively.

However, one user over on r/HarryPotteronHBO has drawn our attention to the fact that the one remaining house has never produced a dark wizard.

I’m talking about Hufflepuff, of course.

The house which is famed for choosing students who value hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty and fair play has canonically not produced a dark wizard or Death Eater throughout the history of the Harry Potter series.

“This is the only one of the four houses that hasn't produced a black mage. For those who want to talk about Cedric Diggory and refer to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, you should know that like many people, I don't consider this novel canon,” user Madagascar003 explained.

There has been speculation both by fans and J.K. Rowling herself whether Cursed Child is canon or not but regardless, this fact still remains true for the original series.

However, user Mangert put forward an interesting question.

“Gilderoy Lockhart wasn’t a dark wizard per se, but he was a criminal wizard. He’s another Ravenclaw bad dude. How do you define a dark wizard? Casting unforgivable curses? Working for Voldemort?”

It is a good point but considering both Harry and Professor McGonagall also cast an Unforgivable Curse in the books, it would turn this whole theory on its head.

Nonetheless, it is an interesting observation to say the least and just another way that Hufflepuffs can brag.
