GTA 6 and Shrek 5 releasing the same year: 'maybe life is worth living'
Could we be getting GTA 6 and Shrek 5 in the very same year?
The Shrek movie series is one of DreamWorks Animations' most popular franchises, but it’s been a while since we’ve been greeted by a movie starring everyone’s favourite ogre.
In fact, the last mainline Shrek movie to be released was in 2010 with Shrek Forever After. So it stands to reason that fans have been wishing to see a new movie starring the green beast alongside his friends Princess Fiona and Donkey. Thankfully, it seems like that wish is being granted.

“Long-settled into married life and fully domesticated, Shrek begins to long for the days when he felt like a real ogre,” reads the synopsis of Shrek Forever After. “Duped into signing a contract with devious Rumpelstiltskin, he finds himself in an alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin rules, and he and Fiona have never met. Shrek must find a way out of the contract to restore his world and reclaim his true love.”
As reported by our friends at LADBible, an employee of NBCUniversal may have accidentally leaked the upcoming release of Shrek 5 and it looks to be releasing in the same year as GTA VI. So perhaps life is worth living after all. That being said, it’s been common knowledge that a fifth movie will arrive at some point, we’ve just not known exactly when.
The NBCUniversal employee in question had reportedly updated their LinkedIn page revealing that Shrek 5 is being released in 2025, before that update was swiftly deleted. While it’s not set in stone as of yet, it is believed that Grand Theft Auto VI will be released between 2024 to 2025. GTA fans are hoping to learn more about when the next entry in Rockstar Games’ popular series will arrive with its upcoming trailer reveal early next month.
We’ll of course, keep you posted if we hear of any further developments on the progress of Shrek 5 and when that movie does eventually arrive, hopefully, it will be worth the 15-year wait.
