While the actor generally receives poor reviews from critics and fans, his latest film, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, has gotten an overwhelmingly positive reception, his best to date.

The film follows two girl best friends who end up fighting for the attention of a popular boy they both know about. The divide leads to some comedic events that end up ruining their bat mitzvah plans. Adam Sandler plays the father of one of the girls and also stars alongside his wife, Jackie Sandler, and their two daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler who also play parts in the film.

At the time of writing, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is currently sitting at an impressive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes based on critic reviews. The audience score is slightly less favourable, sitting at 67% with 500+ reviews.

Sandler actually received a fair amount of slack for the film, specifically casting his wife and daughters as main characters. Following the accusations of nepotism, critics actually came to Sandler’s aid, with one from The Independent, Louis Chilton, stating the success of the film proves “no one cares about nepotism”.

Others said Sandler has always cast people he’s close with in his films, most notably films like Grown Ups which starred Sandler and several of his close friends.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is currently available to watch on Netflix.
