With The Witcher remake on the way, fans are hoping it will live up to the success of The Witcher 3. Luckily, that looks as though it might be the case with the studio announcing they will cut the “simply bad” parts of the original game.

Announced back in October 2022, The Witcher remake will bring a modern take to the 2007 action RPG which many fans would agree is much needed. After the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015, it is no surprise that the developers have turned their attention back to where it all began and that is where Fool’s Theory comes in, a studio consisting of CD Projekt Red veterans.

One of those veterans is CEO Jakub Rokosz who worked on both The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 but unfortunately never got to work on the original title. “It always bothered me that I missed the first. I wanted a chance to give it the justice it deserves,” he said in a recent interview with Edge.

As a 2007 title, The Witcher is in desperate need of modernisation. Not only is there some content that would raise a few eyebrows in 2024 but its graphics, gameplay and pacing will need a polish but Rokusz believes his team is up to the challenge.

“First and foremost, we need an honest, down-to-earth analysis of which parts are simply bad, outdated, and need to be remade,” he said. As a result, the team will need to work on “highlighting the parts that are great, should be retained, or are direct key pillars that can't be discarded.”

It will be some time until we see the remake with plans to release it after the launch of The Witcher 4 which CDPR are reportedly hard at work on. This news also comes after it was revealed that The Witcher 4 development team had been massively increased with over 400 people working on the project.
