When it comes to highly anticipated games, there aren't many that fans are as excited for as The Witcher 4 to continue the adventures of Geralt and Ciri (maybe).

Inspired by the Andrzej Sapkowski novels, since its inception in 2007, The Witcher series has gone on to be one of developers CD Projekt RED’s hottest properties which was most recently joined by its sci-fi RPG, Cyberpunk 2077.

In 2022, CD Projekt RED announced that it was working on The Witcher 4, as well as other projects that include a remake of the original game from 2007. No details were provided on The Witcher 4, other than it will be moving away from CDPRs in-house REDengine in favour of Unreal Engine 5 as part of a “multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games”.

No release dates have been announced for The Witcher projects, but it might be safe to assume that they could be next-gen releases some years away, especially as we know that CDPR likes to take its time. That being said, that hasn't stopped fans from continuing the hype train rolling for The Witcher 4.

“Two-thirds of CD Projekt developers are now working on The Witcher 4, reaching its target staff size,” said Redditor Turbostrider27 sharing information in the thread. This implies that CDPR has notched it up a gear with the development of the upcoming action RPG.

Understandably, fans are seriously excited for The Witcher 4 but that doesn't mean there aren't concerns, especially following the launch woes of Cyberpunk 2077.

“I hope they have learnt their lesson from Cyberpunk 2077. Marketing less early, take your time, and DON'T release the game on platforms that just can't run it,” exclaimed jorgelongo222 referring to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases.

I like to think that CDPR has learned a valuable lesson with Cyberpunk 2077 and that’s not to be pressured by release dates and to launch a game when it's good and ready, even if that means some console generations may miss out.
