Supernatural actor Jared Padalecki failed to appear at a convention for the show in New Jersey last weekend after suffering injuries following a car crash.

As reported by Comic Book, speaking at the event about his absence, co-star Jensen Ackles explained what happened and why Padalecki would not be making it to the convention as promised. "I miss my buddy. He sends his love. I spoke with him yesterday. He's sad he can't be here. He was in a very bad car accident. He wasn't driving. He was in the passenger seat, and he's lucky to be alive.” Despite not driving during the incident it appears that Padalecki sustained his injuries as a result of the impact from the airbag.

If you like Supernatural we think you should also check out Moon Knight. Watch the trailer in the video below.

Ackles continued "That airbag packs a punch. He's like, 'I feel like I went 12 rounds with Tyson.' But he is doing OK, and he's moving around. But yeah, really, really bad car accident. Just keep him in your thoughts, send him some love if you get a chance on social [media] and he'll be back with us soon."

Padalecki released his own apology on Twitter explaining that he wouldn’t make it to the convention. Fans have responded to the post with kindness and well wishes.

Hey #SpnFamily! Sorry to miss y’all in NYC this weekend. Thank you and the #WalkerFamily for all the love and support. Can’t wait to see y’all again. 🙏❤️

Further information on the actor’s injuries or the crash have not been released. Though it seems that the actor is currently in recovery. Supernatural released its 15th and final season in 2020, after 327 episodes. Padalecki is now starring in Walker, a reboot of the 1990's western Walker, Texas Ranger. The show is in the middle of airing its second season, where Padalecki stars as the titular Texas ranger, Cordell Walker, and has been renewed for a third.
