Netflix has been in the news a lot recently. After the company made some consumer unfriendly changes to the streaming service it encountered severe financial losses.
In January, Netflix announced that it would increase the price of subscriptions at every tier. While it is considering a lower priced subscription which would come with adverts, many subscribers have already left the service. The price hike combined with the announcement that Netflix would begin charging more for those who share passwords between households, has led to the service losing 200,000 subscribers this financial quarter, when it previously estimated an increase of 2.5 million.

Netflix has been making a number of changes due to its $54 billion loss from its market cap. It has cut a number of projects in the hope of making up some of the lost revenue. An article by the Wall Street Journal reported that the company is tightening its belts according to senior executives. This means prioritising programmes which have the biggest return rather than those which have the greatest reach.

Stranger Things is one of the top earning shows for the streaming platform as evidenced by its stonking budget. While Netflix has not made its latest budget public, the latest season is rumoured to have cost around $30 million per episode. This completely eclipses the reported budget for season 3 which was around $10 million per episode.
The latest season will be released in two halves, with the first being added to the online service on 27 May and the second on 1 July. Three years have passed since the third season was released. Delays due to the pandemic, and the rising costs for the actors are in part responsible for the increase in budget.
