‘Stranger Things’ Season Four Episode Lengths Revealed, And They’re Ridiculous

We've been waiting three years for Stranger Things' fourth season, but the show is set to make up for it with its longest season yet.

Season one of Stranger Things debuted on our screens six years ago and the world soon became obsessed with the creepy goings-on of the town of Hawkins. I would say ‘How time flies,’ but gosh, does that show make us wait a long time for answers.

Season three came out three years ago which is a huge gap - and even beats out the lengthy two-year delay between Game of Thrones’ penultimate and final seasons. The good news is that Stranger Things is finally set to return next week and the official runtimes have now been revealed. Oh boy, we have a lot to watch.

Ahead of the release of Stranger Things' fourth season next week, remind yourself of what's to come with this action-packed trailer.

We should’ve seen this coming. Director Shawn Levy had previously teased that some episodes were longer than his recent movies Free Guy and The Adam Project, and he wasn’t lying. The shortest episode clocks in at one hour and a quarter, while the longest is a whopping two and a half hours. See the complete runtimes below.

  • Episodes 1 to 6: Roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes each.
  • Episode 7: 1 hour and 38 minutes.
  • Episode 8: 1 hour and 25 minutes.
  • Episode 9: 2 hours and 30 minutes.

This equates to over 13 hours of Stranger Things content. Add in the fact that Netflix have reportedly spent over $30 million per episode, and it sure looks like we’re in for a treat.

The runtimes will likely divide fans. The longer a series, the harder it can be to dedicate time to it. Personally, I remember thinking that season three was over in a flash so I’m all for the extended experience.

Season four will drop in two parts. Volume one will be released on 27 May, containing episodes one to seven. Volume two will then drop on 1 July with the final two episodes. Oh and don’t forget that this isn’t even the final season. We’ve still got one more to go.
