Starfield meets Rust in this massive new Unreal Engine 5 open world sci-fi epic

Starfield and Rust fans are going to want to keep an eye on the upcoming Dune: Awakening.

After it was first revealed back in 2022, we’ve finally got a fresh look at the upcoming Dune: Awakening - a survival MMO set on the planet of Arrakis.

Whether you’ve seen Dune Part Two or not, I’m imagining your social media feed is swamped with memes and reactions. I hate to admit it but I've yet to watch both the film and its predecessor despite being interested in doing so, but I do know that Dune Part Two features an agony box, an impressively bald Austin Butler, and an apparent tour de force performance from Timothee Chalamet. If Dune Part Two left you wanting to step into Timothee’s shoes, well that’s going to be somewhat possible in the upcoming Dune: Awakening.

Check out the brand new trailer for Dune: Awakening below.

Set to release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Dune: Awakening is an MMO that appears to combine the best elements of Starfield and Rust. Developed and set to be published by Funcom, the game is survival-based as players explore the planet of Arrakis. You’ll be tasked with dealing with the planet’s harsh conditions, all whilst building structures and increasing your supply of weapons and vehicles.

Unfortunately, we still have no idea when Dune: Awakening is due to release but we do know that it’s previously gone through a period of beta testing which offers some hint as to where developers are at with this project. You can sign up over on the game’s website if you want to be informed when the next beta period kicks off.

I was relieved to see that the latest trailer is mildly less reliant on cinematics than the initial reveal, although there’s still a fair amount in there. Alongside that though, we do get a few short glimpses at various methods of traversal and some combat. It’s shaping up nicely and I certainly look forward to hearing more.
