Starfield meets Metal Gear Solid and Valheim in staggering new RPG

This definitely looks like one to keep an eye on in 2025

The next big Steam hit looks like an incredible mix between the early Metal Gear Solid titles, Starfield and Valheim, and I already cannot wait to get my hands on it.

beta decay is an upcoming PC-only title from developers Rotoscope Studios that, at first glance, looks like a game from the early PlayStation 1 era.

Honestly, I literally couldn’t discern what the actual gameplay loop in this game is by watching the trailers alone, but I was immediately sold on it once I watched this video from the closed playtest for the game from YouTube Bl4nkface.

However, the incredibly satisfying-looking stealth-focused, first-person/third-person gameplay seems to be the last thing that the developer is actually talking about when it comes to beta decay, as it sounds like there’s a pretty deep RPG buried under all of this.

Rotoscope Studios describes it as “a dark, dystopian RPG where you can build spaceships, join factions, and fight for territory in a newly discovered star system.”

You're tasked with building your own spaceships, recruiting a team of specialists to man them, and delving into deep space to... well, to do whatever you want by the sounds of it.

The "roles" system in beta decay is probably the most interesting part of it to me, as it seems like you can be anything from an engineer, a merchant, a faction leader, to a straight-up space pirate.

Either way, I’m sold on the combat alone. If a game like this can deliver on a deep RPG system alongside all of that, however, I wouldn’t be surprised if this one ends up being a sleeper hit in 2025.

Speaking of, there’s no exact release date for beta decay yet, but the Rotoscope Studios’ official site does state that the game is targeting an early access release on Steam sometime in July.

Personally, I’m thoroughly looking forward to this one, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for the full release on Steam.
