It is always a shame when some beautiful indie titles fly under the radar but thanks to PlayStation Plus, we won’t have to miss out on any again. This includes one action RPG that combines the challenge of Dark Souls with the cute vibes of Stardew Valley.

Available for PlayStation Plus Extra members, Moonlighter is a 2018 indie action RPG by the developers at Digital Sun and Crunching Koalas (side note, can we just appreciate how cute that name is?) With rogue-lite elements, you will play as Will, an adventurous shopkeeper who secretly dreams of becoming a hero.

With pixel graphics reminiscent of Stardew Valley but the challenging combat sadly similar to Dark Souls, Moonlighter is a hack-and-slash adventure which will keep you coming back for more.

Check out the Moonlighter launch trailer below!

“During a long-passed archaeological excavation, a set of Gates were discovered,” reads the official synopsis. “People quickly realized that these ancient passages lead to different realms and dimensions – providing brave and reckless adventurers with treasures beyond measure. Rynoka, a small commercial village, was founded near the excavation site providing refuge and a place for adventurers to sell their hard-earned riches.”

In the village of Rynoka, you will be able to tend to your business by putting items up for sale, setting their prices, recruiting assistants and upgrading your shop. When you are not a busy shopkeeper, you will fight with style as you take on various enemies and bosses with a wide selection of weapons but combat is less than smooth sailing. As a result, how you approach fights will be up to you.

Alongside your business and dungeon-dwelling, you will get to meet other villagers, craft and enchant your gear, search for loot, befriend companions and more. With each run designed to be unique, you never know what you will encounter next.

Moonlighter is now free to download for all PlayStation Plus Extra members.
