Stardew Valley major free download 'larger than planned', developer confirms

A chunky download ahead

Everyone’s favourite cosy farming simulator just gets bigger and bigger all the time. The latest patch, version 1.6, is an absolute chunk. The patch focuses on several things, including bug fixes and general polishing of the game. This comes off the back of the news that the developer is now finished with adding major new content.

Details from a recent tweet appear to show that this patch will be one of the bigger releases for some time with ConcernedApe explaining, “1.6 ended up being a little larger in scope than originally planned. I'm done adding major new content to it now, though, and it's in a bug-fixing and polishing phase until it's ready for release. Thx for your patience. It'll be fun to see everyone play it!”

Stardew Valley continues to be updated despite no longer receiving major content

At this point in the game’s lifespan, it’s great to see updates and patches still coming down the pipeline. It’s no surprise given the game’s success and popularity. Stardew Valley has consistently sold well, it has a staunch fanbase who have dedicated thousands of hours, along with a great modding community who can take over the content when the developer is finished and has moved onto their next game.

Stardew Valley is the quintessential farming game that so many others aim to emulate. It has become an industry standard and spawned an entire genre of farming simulators. It’s legacy is long-standing and will likely last forever because, even though the game isn’t receiving major content, it’s an endlessly replayable game.

Hopefully we’ll still see these bug-squashing patches for some time to come - the game is huge so new issues could come up at any time, but the game is in a great place. If you haven’t played Stardew Valley yet, what are you waiting for? There’s never a better time than right now.
