Stardew Valley Free RPG Overhaul Is Everything I Never Knew I Needed

This game just keeps getting better

Stardew Valley is one of those games you can play for hours, and hours, and hours without really accomplishing much but still having a really nice time.

You could sink weeks into the game and yet you’ll still feel the urge to purge your save file and start over from scratch with a new farm. Stardew Valley is just that good.

I tend to play on the Nintendo Switch but PC players have it so much better, and I regularly find myself perusing the latest NexusMods in awe of the fan-made expansions.

The one that caught my eye this week that I’d love to give a try is Apex Mastery- RPG Progression, which as you’d probably expect makes the game feel more like a classic RPG.

Simply put the mod adds a “59-node Skill Tree” to the game that can be prestiged once you hit Level 10 in a category.

You’ll then acquire a mastery point which can apparently be used to unlock “game-breaking powers.”

The four main skills include mining, combat, fishing and foraging, each having their own special perks to unlock. If I could I’d be maxing out that fishing stat as soon as possible. No game is complete without a fishing minigame.

If you’ve played and enjoyed Runescape this mod will be one for you, as it adds a bit more depth to the gameplay and encourages you to master all tools and activities.

That’s not to say the gameplay of Stardew Valley wasn’t deep to begin with. As I said before you can spend hours at a time exploring its world and taking care of your farm and still not fully scratch the surface.

This mod at least gives you more concrete goals to work towards, though for those who play Stardew Valley for a more casual experience it might not be for you.

Nevertheless it’s an impressive fan-made addition to the game, and if you’re interested you can download it now for free as always.

Sunkissed City

Some exciting news was shared this month regarding a spiritual successor to Stardew Valley.

Sunkissed City is being developed by one of the former Stardew Valley devs and while it shares some similarities in terms of artstyle it aims to offer a completely different experience, as it’s all about city-living.

Mr. Podunkian, the game’s developer, recently confirmed that the game is on track for a 2026 release and we can’t wait for it to eat up all of our free time when it drops..
