Star Wars quietly confirms Darth Maul's real name isn't what we thought

The lore is neverending

With so much lore to wrap your head around, it is often easy to miss some important facts when it comes to the Star Wars universe.

From the discovery of Jar Jar Binks’ father to the truth behind the fate of Anakin’s mother, fans of Star Wars are showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to uncovering all there is to know about the much-loved sci-fi franchise.

Check out our interview with the stars of The Acolyte below!

With the latest Star Wars spin-off The Acolyte recently airing its last episode, theories in the fandom are running rampant after the finale showed some important faces.

More specifically, it has led fans to ask questions about some previous characters and one in particular is Darth Maul himself.

As the Sith Lord trained by Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine, Darth Maul is one of the most recognisable characters in Star Wars history.

However, many fans have long questioned his real name and it appears as though it is an area of mystery to say the least.

As we already know, Sith Lords will be christened with a new name when they turn to the dark side.

For example, Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader, a name completely different from his own and a way of marking their rebirth.

However, it appears as though Darth Maul is something of an anomaly as it is believed that his real name was in fact Maul.

This was stated in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series and this would mean that Darth Sidious kept Maul’s birth name and just added the titular Darth.

However, one fan does not believe this to be true as the whole point is giving up your previous identity and life when you stray from the light.

“Giving him a vestige of a life he could’ve had, a bitter reminder of a much better life that he was denied by allowing him to keep his birth name seems a poor way to convince a person to let go of their past and embrace their present and future,” they said.
