Despite picking up nominations at both The Game Awards and the BAFTA Games Awards, Split Fiction failed to take home any trophies.
That shouldn’t, however, detract from the indisputable fact that Split Fiction was easily one of last year’s very best releases.
Here at GAMINGbible, it secured a perfect score of 10 out of 10; it currently sits at a very respectable 91 on MetaCritic.
In recent years, Hollywood appears to have cracked the code when it comes to creating successful adaptations of video games. Well, almost.

For every Fallout, there’s a Borderlands, but we’re a far cry from where we used to be.
It’s with all of this in mind that it’s no real surprise that Split Fiction’s film rights were quickly snapped up by Amazon MGM Studios.
The film has some major talent attached.
Sydney Sweeney is on board to star, although it’s not known whether she’ll play Mio or Zoe.
Jon M. Chu of Wicked fame is on directing duties, with Deadpool & Wolverine’s screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick due to pen the script.
GAMINGbible had the opportunity to catch up with Hazelight’s outspoken head honcho Josef Fares at the BAFTA Games Awards who had some choice words about the adaptation.
“You know, I often say I believe it when I see it in Hollywood,” Fares told us.
“In Hollywood, there's a lot of talk, and [...] I like not to talk the talk. I walk the walk. There's a lot of bulls**t in talking. When it happens, I believe it.”

He continued, “And we'll see if it ever happens, it’s going to be fun. If it doesn't happen, you know, it is what it is. I'm so tired of bulls**t. Like I want s**t to happen.”
“Like, come on. I mean, they know about this. I say this every meeting we have with that.”
It’s perhaps no real surprise that Fares has some choice words for Hollywood.
After all, the developer came up in the world of film before switching over to game development. There’s also the It Takes Two film to consider which appears to be stuck in development hell.
Development began on a film adaptation in 2022 but very little progress has been made.
Here’s to hoping Mio and Zoe’s story has better luck making it to the silver screen. If anyone can spur on Hollywood to make it happen, it’s Josef Fares.
