Spider-Man PS1 is about to come back in a big way

The potential is off the scale

Spider-Man for the original PlayStation is considered a classic by many. Developed by Neversoft, it was one of the first superhero games that truly captured the comic books.

While nowadays it looks very dated, there’s no denying it’s a good time and showcases the Marvel hero wonderfully.

No Man's Sky has recently received a huge update to overhaul many of the game's systems

Well, it appears the game is about to be broken wide open by modders and members of the community.

According to Pirat_Nation on Twitter, the original game is currently being decompiled and cracked open so that modders can get to the source code.

What this means is that we could see a native PC version of the game created, rather than a simple port or emulated experience.

The process is about 16% in, so it’ll still take some time but once completed it could lead to some great things.

This opportunity will not only mean that the game could run at high framerates with upscaled visuals, but modding will be possible, unleashing the imaginations of community creators across the world.

The game already featured characters like Venom, but we could see a whole host of Spider-Man’s villains step into the world, or even more heroes to play alongside Spidey.

We could even see completely new levels coded from the ground up by talented members of the fandom.

Fans have a huge soft spot for this classic, and while many rate the Dreamcast version above the PS1 version, the SEGA console’s software is a tough nut to crack.

The Twitter thread announcing the news is filled with replies from old-school players who played Spider-Man back in the day and are eager to get their hands on the title again.

The memories and nostalgia flood back just from looking at screenshots, so being able to run this with some modern technology is going to be very exciting.
