A freshly announced game from the team behind RuneScape looks like a healthy mix of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Valheim, and you won’t have to wait too long to get your hands on it.

Bit of a rogue move to announce a new game on 31 March just before the clock strikes midnight, but clearly the team at Jagex aren’t particularly worried about people mistaking their new game for an April Fool’s Day joke.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is an upcoming open-world survival game from developer and publisher Jagex, set in the same universe as their ridiculously popular MMORPG RuneScape.

The team revealed the game last night alongside a trailer, and it certainly looks pretty. That’s the power of Unreal Engine 5 at work, the engine that RuneScape: Dragonwilds has been built on.

Have you tried Avowed? That's definitely one for The Elder Scrolls fans.

Obviously not many people have been able to get their hands on the title, but I did find one comment on the r/Games subreddit from a user who was lucky enough to play the alpha build of RuneScape: Dragonwilds - and they seemed extremely complimentary.

“I got to play the alpha for this game, and as an OSRS player and massive survival game fan, I was super impressed,” commented user Whattup.

“Normally everything that Jagex makes that's not OSRS is pretty whack but I saw lots of innovation and clever design pulled from contemporary titles like Valheim as well as plenty of the magic that makes OSRS special. Super excited.”

You won’t be waiting too long if you’re desperate to play it either, as Jagex announced last night that the game will be launching in early-access sometime in Spring this year. That means we should be able to play it at some point in the next couple of months.

For the time being, it sounds like RuneScape: Dragonwilds will be a Steam exclusive. The lack of a console port shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise and likely isn’t going to change, based on the fact that Jagex’s Runescape games have never seen releases on consoles.
