In the midst of all the recent Star Wars content, from Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett, to the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi, it’s easy to forget about some of the things that fans have been begging for for years.

You’ve seen the headline, of course - I’m talking about the return of everyone’s favourite purple lightsaber wielder. The fans aren’t the only ones who’d love to see Mace Windu make a comeback - as reported by The Direct, Samuel L. Jackson recently spoke on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and revealed that he’s actually spoken to one of The Mandalorian directors, Bryce Dallas Howard, about the possibility.

ICYMI... check out the trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi below.

“There’s a huge history of people with one hand returning in Star Wars… The only person I’ve ever said that to about coming back was Bryce Dallas Howard, ’cause I just did a movie with her,” he said. “And she directs episodes of The Mandalorian, so, ‘you think you might be able to hook a brother up? I mean you like me, right?’ She’s like, ‘I love you, you’re amazing!’, ‘so put me back in there. Put me in coach, I’m ready!’ You know, I’ll learn to lightsaber left-handed. Come on, hook me up.”

Obviously, Mace Windu’s return would be a pretty big deal - he's meant to be dead, after all. Jackson previously spoke about this too though, and doesn’t think that his, uh, fall from grace really rules him out. In an interview with Stephen Colbert back in 2019, as well as expressing that he’d “really love to give one more run at Mace Windu in Star Wars,” he had some pretty interesting reasoning as to how his character could have survived.

“There's a long history of one-handed guys that were Jedis that have lightsabers that still make it,” he said at the time. “Jedis can fall from incredible heights and not die, like cats.” Well, fair enough.

There’s no doubt that plenty of fans would be super happy to see him in the role again - in 2020, people thought that the official Star Wars instagram account was hinting at him making a comeback, when on his birthday, they wrote: “The party isn't over, it's just beginning!” Could it finally be time to see it actually happen? Maybe. We’ll just have to watch this space.
