Resident Evil 9 fans are hyped over the prospect of experiencing its first playable demo.
Following months of rumours, we got our first look at the next entry in Capcom’s Resident Evil series at the most recent Summer Game Fest with Resident Evil Requiem, and it sent social media into a frenzy.
In the trailer, we were introduced to its main protagonist, FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. As far as we’re aware, there is no connection to the Ashcroft family of Resident Evil Code: Veronica.

Some believe that despite only seeing Grace as a main focus in the debut Resident Evil Requiem trailer, Leon S. Kennedy may be a second playable character. Hopefully, we’ll find out either way in the coming months.
If Leon were to return, it would be a perfect scenario, because Resident Evil Requiem will be taking us back to Raccoon City, nearly 30 years after it was nuked in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. That’s assuming Resident Evil Requiem is set in the modern day.
At Summer Game Fest, a 30-minute gameplay presentation was shown behind closed doors but, sadly, not to the public. That being said, it’s probably only a matter of days until Capcom releases that footage into the wild.
It was also revealed during Summer Game Fest that a playable demo for Resident Evil Requiem will be available to all those fortunate enough to attend Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, this coming August.

“Is there a playable demo for Resident Evil Requiem, or is it exclusively for events?” asked Redditor Mcpoopz1064. “I keep seeing talk about the demo, and was curious if I could download and play it. I'd rather play it myself instead of reading about it if I can.”
Judging by previous Capcom actions, there’s a very good chance that at least one downloadable playable demo will be made available for Resident Evil Requiem at some point.
Capcom has done this with the likes of the Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 remakes, as well as Resident Evil Village, so I’d be shocked if the same is not done for Resident Evil Requiem.
“Every Capcom game I can think of in the last six to seven years has had a playable public demo at some point,” replied TomVinPrice. "Outside of stuff like the HD collections. I imagine an RE9 demo will come a lot later in the year.”

Typically, Capcom tends to release its playable demos for Resident Evil games during the same month of a full release, so if the Resident Evil Requiem demo was released earlier than that, it would be a nice bonus.
Resident Evil Requiem has a release date of 27 February 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
