Red Dead Redemption mystery teaser dropped by John Marston himself

Saddle up!

It looks like we could finally be getting the Red Dead Redemption release we’ve been waiting for, as John Marston’s actor appears to have dropped a huge teaser.

I’ve been a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series since the very beginning, long before it ventured into the 3D open-world landscape. From its gritty stories, corruption, high octane action and sense of adventure, there’s a lot to love about the ever-popular Rockstar Games series.

However, for me, there’s something extra special about Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption series. Which probably has a lot to do with watching classic Clint Eastwood western movies with my dad when I was a kid.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Revolver in 2004 as well as Activision’s Gun that released the following year, but when Red Dead Redemption arrived in 2010, it was something else entirely.

Red Dead Redemption has a huge, vast and vibrant open wild west world, interesting characters, epic gunslinging action and a lead protagonist in John Marston that instantly won my heart.

Then in 2018, we had its (pre) sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, starring Arthur Morgan, a game bigger and arguably better than its predecessor in almost every way.

In 2023, the original Red Dead Redemption got re-released on modern platforms, and finally on PC the following year. So naturally, fans assumed that Red Dead Redemption 2 would soon follow suit.

Unfortunately, despite rumours of Red Dead Redemption 2 getting a new-gen release, Rockstar Games has remained quiet. Which, to be fair, is typical Rockstar Games behaviour.

That being said, it looks like Red Dead Redemption 2 might get a native release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S this week, and possibly even the Nintendo Switch 2 at some point.

As brought to our attention by Twitter user Kami aka Okami13, during a Twitch stream, Rob Wiethoff, the actor John Marston, teased “exciting news” that will be announced this week.

What’s more, he said, “The news that I have to share - and I won't be the only one sharing it - I cannot wait for you to know what's going on.”

“Finally, next-gen versions. I can't wait to experience this masterpiece in 60 frames-per-second,” replied Tellmewhy to the tweet.

“It still baffles me that I've been enjoying it at 1440p over 100 frames since 2019, and consoles still don't have a better version,” said DMak_2012. Hopefully, that will be changing soon.

This “tease” could be something very underwhelming, but judging by recent rumours, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that the long-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 new-gen release could be announced soon.

We’ll keep you posted when we learn more.
