Red Dead Redemption 3 already has the perfect protagonist

Red Dead Redemption 3 fans are saying it should star a young Landon Ricketts, and we agree.

We first met gunslinger Landon Ricketts in the original Red Dead Redemption, there was also a version of him in the expansion, Undead Nightmare. Simply put, Ricketts is a wild west legend in Red Dead Redemption folklore.

The protagonist of the first game, John Marston meets Ricketts in a small town known as Chuparosa in Nuevo Paraíso, where the legendary gunslinger was acting as an unofficial sheriff or vigilante, depending on your perspective.

It is during this encounter that Ricketts teaches the Dead Eye ability to Marston which also crossed over into the sequel (prequel) with Arthur Morgan.

Landon Ricketts is certainly one of the most memorable characters in Red Dead Redemption, which is why fans are calling for him to star as a young character in the third game.

“Is it just me or does RDR 3 starring a young Landon Ricketts not sound perfect?” asked DayneAD on Reddit.

“I think it sounds pretty cool, they can continue the themes of myth, history and reality,” replied AnElusiveSomething. “Honestly, I just want them to make a cowboy game that takes place in the West before its decline. So much of Western media takes place when the West is dying.”

“Playing as a young Landon Ricketts would be perfect for that,” said Brahmus168. “All we know about him is that he was a famous gunslinger. We know he's a player-tier character and can use Dead Eye because he taught John how to get back into it.”

Some Redditors even discussed the series dropping the ‘Redemption’ part of the name. “I really REALLY want the next game to be a complete 180 and be called Red Dead Revenge. No more redemption and hope, only rage and hatred,” suggest MarchingMan95.

Not only do I like the idea of Landon Ricketts being the lead character, but I am all for a subtle name change too. The legend of Ricketts is a brutal story, one that you could read up on if interested. Something like Red Dead Revenge or Retribution could be befitting of the character.

What’s more, this series hasn't always been known as Red Dead Redemption. In 2004, we had the game that spawned the series, Red Dead Revolver. So it wouldn't be the first time that Rockstar Games has changed the name of the series.
