Fans recently hailed Red Dead Redemption 2 as one of the ‘greatest games ever’ as Rockstar Games’ iconic title celebrated its fourth birthday. It is a truly incredible game - and the fact that it’s previous-gen is wild. That being said, we would still like a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S patch, Rockstar, if you’re listening. I can understand why there’s no rush though, RDR2 looks relatively brand new.
If you do want to experience RDR2 in full 8K glory, you’re going to need a NVIDIA RTX 4090. One player recently showcased what the game looks like in 8K and the results are so stunning that its beauty may have burnt a hole in my retinas. Today though, we’re here to celebrate a major milestone. RDR2 just hit an all-time player count record on Steam.
Take a look at some of our favourite Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below.
As reported by Eurogamer, Steam Database recorded a peak of 66,492 concurrent RDR2 players on 27 November this week, which beats the previous record of 55,000 achieved on 26 December, 2019. Where did the sudden spike come from, I hear ye ask? Well, RDR2 is currently in Steam’s autumn sale. If you’re yet to grab the title, you can do so now for the bargain price of £18.14.

It’s nice to know that people are still discovering RDR2. In this industry, we’re constantly moving on to the ‘best new thing,’ but every now and then a modern classic like RDR2 comes along to remind us that we don’t always need to focus on ‘new’. Is it too soon to call RDR2 a timeless classic? I’m going to say it anyway.
It’s a game that means a lot to players. In fact, many recently gathered over on Reddit to share how the game helped them through tough times. May Red Dead Redemption 2 remain popular for many years to come.
