Xbox Series X/S users are in luck as a much-loved hack and slash title has arrived to the console and is available to download for absolutely free.

First released in 2012, Darksiders II is an action RPG hack and slash title from Vigil Games.

Check out the trailer for spin-off Darksiders Genesis below!

Originally launched on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC back in 2012, it was later remastered and brought to the PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2015, followed by a Nintendo Switch release in 2019.

However, it has now arrived on the Xbox Series X/S and better yet, it is free to download right now.

Announced by THQ Nordic just yesterday, Darksiders II is receiving the current-gen upgrade and is arriving as a remastered and Definitive Edition.

For those who already own the title for the Xbox One, you will receive the “Deathivitive Edition” via Smart Delivery.

This includes 4K resolution, ray tracing, improved loading times and enhanced light and shadows so it will not look out of place on the Xbox Series X/S.

However, if you have not tried out Darksiders II in the past, you will be able to grab it for 50% on the Xbox Store for the next 27 days.

This means you can buy Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition for just £11.99 / $14.99 ahead of the remastered release next month.

As for the remastered version, it will become available on 15 October and will show the game better than it has ever looked before.

It also comes alongside an exciting sounding synopsis:

"Become the terrifying force which everything fears but nothing can escape.

Awakened by the End of Days, Death, the most feared of the legendary Four Horsemen embarks on a quest to redeem his brother's name.

Along the way, the Horseman discovers that an ancient grudge may threaten all of Creation. Death lives!"
