Xbox players can now enjoy a heart-warming freebie, dedicated to the late and great Akira Toiryama, creator of Dragon Ball.

As a Dragon Ball fan myself, I don’t think I’m the only one still reeling at the loss of Akira Toriyama, who unexpectedly passed away last month leaving fans devastated.

However his legacy lives on, through Dragon Ball and projects like Sand Land which you can see below

What’s followed since his passing is a number of heartwarming tributes celebrating the creator and his contributions to manga, anime and gaming, showing just how many lives he touched with his art and how grateful we all are that he did.

One such tribute has come from Xbox itself, as it recently announced users now have access to a brand-new dynamic dashboard for their Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles dedicated to Toriyama.

What some might not have known is that Akira Toriyama worked on several video games over his career, like Dragon Quest and the one we’re talking about today, Blue Dragon.

Blue Dragon was an Xbox-exclusive JRPG and the company’s attempt to develop more of an audience in the Japanese market, where PlayStation and Nintendo obviously reigns supreme.

While not being the massive success Xbox originally envisioned, it performed well and it was loved by many, especially as it featured art by Akira Toriyama.

The new dynamic background is themed around Blue Dragon, and was revealed in a tweet by Xbox which read: “Honoring a true legend. We’ve added a new dynamic dashboard background featuring Xbox 360's Blue Dragon, with art and character designs by Akira Toriyama.”

The dynamic background is available now for all Xbox users, free-of-charge.

In other news, since Toriyama’s passing there’s been a lot of discussion around what’ll happen to the Dragon Ball series moving forward.

The Dragon Ball Super manga is currently amidst a short hiatus, but will return in full force with Toyatoro at the helm as Toryiama’s successor.
