Xbox’s next-gen console already has the perfect name, fans agree

The era of the Xbox 360 is one of the most memorable in gaming, as despite only running for eight years, it still manages to stand out to this day even though we are now multiple generations ahead.

First released way back in 2005 and responsible for being the home of some much-loved exclusives such as Fable 2, Halo 3, Gears of War 2, and Dead Rising, the Xbox 360 was a key part of many of our childhoods.

That is why when news broke of the next Xbox generation, many expected Microsoft to continue with this theme.

However, it seemed as though the 360 generation was truly dead and gone when Microsoft released the Xbox One in 2013, followed by the Xbox Series X/S in 2020.

Despite the consoles being an improvement when it came to performance, many fans felt as though some of the magic had been lost.

That is why some have taken to r/xbox to share their ideas for the next generation of Xbox consoles, including what the perfect name would be.

The topic kicked off when one user posted their ideas for a possible name and their reasonings behind them.

“From a business perspective, what is the smart move as far as names go for the next generation of consoles?” they asked.

“Do they stick with the 'Series' and go 'Xbox Series X2'? Do they ditch the 'series' altogether and get a new name like 'Xbox Cobra' or 'Xbox Magenta'? Or maybe they continue with the numbers and go 'Xbox 2' which might get confusing considering it would be like the 4th or 5th gen of Xbox.”

However, many users seemingly agreed on user stevieeatworld’s suggestion.

“Xbox 720. Let's recapture lightning!” they shared.

With almost 100 upvotes, it seems as though this possible name is a winner and would bring back the magic of the Xbox 360 (with the 720 being double the number, of course).

This could make it the “spiritual” successor to the Xbox 360 which seems to be an era that many Xbox users would like to return to.
