Xbox has announced the release date for its next console, the ROG Xbox Ally, and it’s making fans go wild.
Originally announced earlier this year, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X are new consoles that basically function as a handheld Xbox, where you can access your Xbox library as well as the games available on Game Pass.
However, be aware that the system is basically running a modified version of Windows, and isn’t really an Xbox in the traditional sense. However, it is intended as an Xbox machine, running the PC Xbox app to power its games.
For a while, speculation was still up in the air about how much the units would cost and when it would release, but it appears we at least have an answer to the latter question now.

Xbox has announced that the ROG Xbox Ally will be launching on 16th October 2025, just in time to get one for Christmas if you want something nice and shiny to unbox.
“Not announcing the price is ridiculous,” reads one comment on the Xbox Reddit page. According to IGN, Microsoft and ASUS are still undecided on the cost due to “the macro-economic impact to pricing.”
However, some reports claim the consoles will be priced at 549.99 USD and 899.99 USD.
“Damn, I should have researched more but I didn’t know that it could only play play-anywhere console games offline, and the rest needed to be streamed,” another comment reads. “That kinda sucks, probably won’t work for me now.”
“Would've considered buying if you could also boot into the Xbox OS. Which I find perfect with features like quick resume,” reads a third comment.
“Windows is just never going to get that with how it is no matter what the Xbox/Surface team do to it. I'm disappointed that it seems like MS will have Xbox abandon it and go back to pure Windows eventually in the future with the next console.”
The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will launch on 16th October, 2025.
