Xbox's new console set for October launch, and you'll wanna get saving

Pricing also revealed

The ROG Xbox Ally might have just had its release date and pricing leaked, according to a new report.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that it would be partnering with Asus to create a line of Xbox handheld systems.

It’s a little complicated, but it’s essentially a portable PC similar to the Steam Deck, but running a custom Xbox PC operating system which can connect with your other PC libraries.

That means being able to play Steam, Epic Games, or other PC libraries while also accessing your Xbox and Xbox Game Pass games.

Two units will be produced, the ROG Xbox Ally and the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X.

Although Microsoft hasn’t announced pricing or release details yet, aside from a vague “Holiday 2025” window, a new report suggests when it’ll be launching, when you can pre-order, and what sort of prices you’re looking at.

And, yikes, you might want to start saving.

According to insider eXtas1s, who has been pretty reliable in some cases, two European retailers have confirmed with him about Microsoft’s launch plans for the ROG Xbox Ally and the Ally X.

The report suggests that Microsoft is planning an October 2025 launch, with pre-orders available starting from August.

He also claims that the ROG Xbox Ally will cost €599, while the ROG Xbox Ally X will cost €899, but he doesn’t know what it’ll be in other currencies.

For the Xbox Ally, €599 is roughly £510 in GBP, and nearly $700 in USD. Meanwhile, the Ally X’s more expensive €899 price point translates to £760 GBP and over $1000 USD.

That's obviously far more expensive than your other options for handheld systems at the minute.

The recently-released Switch 2 costs just under £400, while you can get a Steam Deck for as low as £349.

So you might want to start saving up now if you’re looking to get either of these handheld beasties.

Of course, it's worth bearing in mind that these reports are to be taken with a grain of salt until Microsoft can confirm.
