You may have tuned into Fallout Day, perhaps you didn’t.
It doesn’t matter either way as I’m here to fill you in on one important announcement you most definitely will not want to miss out on.
The celebration of all things Fallout has been labelled as disappointing by fans, but I’d urge you to rethink that sentiment.
Did a new game, remaster, or remake get announced? Okay, so no, it didn’t.

But Todd Howard did essentially end the livestream by teasing Fallout 5 and that’s a crumb worth savouring.
We discovered additional mod content is coming to Fallout 4 in the upcoming Anniversary Edition, plus Fallout 76’s largest ever expansion, Burning Springs, lands this December.
The expansion will bring Walton Goggins’ Ghoul from the Prime Video TV series Fallout to the game.

It’s not all that’s on the way for Fallout 76.
Yes, the game is finally set to receive a new-gen upgrade and it’s due to be free to all Xbox Series X/S users as well as all PlayStation 5 users.
You’ll have to wait a little while longer
The new-gen upgrade isn’t set to arrive until 2026 which is wild when you think about it.

At that point, we’ll be in the sixth year of the current console generation, and it’s only then that we’re getting a new-gen upgrade.
Better late than never, as they say.
The upgrade will, quite obviously, allow Fallout 76 to run natively on new-gen hardware.
Very little was explained beyond this with additional information to drop in due course.

“Early next year, a native version of Fallout 76 will be coming to Xbox Series S and X and PlayStation 5,” Fallout 76 lead producer Bill LaCoste began.
“This update will take full advantage of their hardware capabilities.”
Alongside this, several clips were shown of the new-gen upgrade and I have to say, the graphics looked very nice indeed.
It’s not a stretch of the imagination to assume that the upgrade may unlock a 60fps mode, although I’m not holding my breath.

Starfield launched at 30fps and that’s a fairly new release, so I sense boosting framerate isn’t always the main goal for Bethesda.
We should most certainly receive improved textures, loading times, and resolutions.
Fallout 76 didn’t exactly dazzle when it first landed.
I do, however, think it’s been in a great place for quite a while now; definitely worth jumping back into.
That’ll become even more true next year.
When the new-gen upgrade does set a release date, we’ll be certain to bring that to you.
