Xbox Game Pass is going through a lot of changes that aim to bring savings directly to you, the subscribers.
After rumours of new CEO Asha Sharma being unhappy with the quality of Xbox Game Pass, the company recently announced a price cut for its most expensive tiers.
From this week onwards, the cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass will be significantly reduced but the changes aren’t stopping there.
For certain subscribers, a second price-cut is being considered, but don’t get too excited as it’ll come at a cost.
Xbox is reconsidering what’s currently offered through Game Pass and how valuable these benefits actually are to users.

In addition to an increasingly expansive library of games, there are also extra benefits like Ubisoft+, Fortnite Crew and pretty soon, Discord Nitro.
While some subscribers are taking advantage of everything their subscription has to offer, there are plenty of other subscribers out there who don’t want half of what's being given to them, and yet they’re still forced to pay top price.
Xbox’s solution according to Jez Corden, shared by CharlieIntel, is a “build-your-own” Game Pass model that’ll let users pick and choose what benefits they’d like to have included.
For example, if you don’t play Fortnite, you’ll likely have no use for Fortnite Crew, or perhaps Xbox’s first-party offerings haven’t been your cup of tea as of late so you could go ahead and cut those from your subscription.
This will obviously save you money in the long-term but at the cost of certain benefits you may actually want later…

Let’s say you decide to ditch first-party games as day-one additions to Xbox Game Pass but eventually change your mind.
Perhaps the buzz around Halo: Campaign Evolved has you wanting to give it a go, or maybe you’ll get FOMO from seeing other Xbox users explore Japan in Forza Horizon 6.
At the time of writing, you can cancel your membership and simply resubscribe with a different one once yours has expired, but how will that work with this new DIY Game Pass model?
There’s bound to be a few hoops you need to jump through if you want to make changes to your subscription, otherwise users will likely find ways to manipulate the service to get extra savings.
Xbox’s efforts to simplify Xbox Game Pass may just overcomplicate it instead.
Perhaps we’re getting ahead of ourselves though. Xbox is yet to introduce this new iteration of Xbox Game Pass and might just decide to stick with the current model anyway. On paper, it’s a great idea though so hopefully the company finds a way to make it work.
Xbox has been making a lot of smart and sensible business decisions as of late and it’s nice to see users celebrate the company’s success for once.
Unfortunately, the rumoured price of the next-gen Xbox, Project Helix, is set to ruin all of that.
