A new leak suggests that an all-time great FPS could be coming to Xbox Game Pass, and it’s one that fans have been awaiting for ages.
After Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard was finalised in 2023, there was a lot of speculation around what titles from the publisher’s extensive 40-year history would make their way to Xbox Game Pass.
Activision, which in recent years has become more associated with the Call of Duty brand rather than its older franchises, added several of its recent games to the subscription service, but some of its older classics are yet to make an appearance.
Recent rumours suggest that this might change though, as one Reddit user spotted the classic Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in a recent advert for Xbox Game Pass.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) on Xbox Game Pass?
“Sorry for the bad picture quality, but unless I’m seeing things that’s the original Modern Warfare 2 at the top right of the Game Pass ad,” they wrote.
Advert
“I just checked and as of 11/8/2025 it’s not on Game Pass and I don’t see it on 'Games coming soon' so I find it weird it’s on an ad.”
As another user pointed out in the comments section, it’s possible that this could allude to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered as opposed to the original Modern Warfare 2. After all, why would Xbox cannibalise its Black Ops 7 playerbase like this?
The campaign remaster also isn’t available on Xbox Game Pass, though considering the lack of multiplayer then it might be a more likely candidate to appear on the service.
Both games have slightly different artwork, so it’s possible that the marketing team designing the advert simply used the wrong image.
This is also not to confuse it with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which released back in 2022 and was added to Game Pass a couple of years later. That game is part of the rebooted Modern Warfare universe, and considered separate from the classic continuity.

If the original Call of Duty games are indeed being added though, it could mean that more may be on the way after that.
This potentially means that classic games like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Call of Duty: World at War could eventually make their way to Xbox Game Pass.
For fans of these older titles, it’d mean a revitalised community and therefore much easier to find multiplayer matches. However, if Activision feels it might cannibalise sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, it’s possible that it may not add all of these titles to the subscription service.
