One of the most appealing features on offer in the Xbox Series S/X is just how customisable they are. From layouts to backgrounds and themes, very few Xbox's are the same once we've had a chance to get our hands on them.

Quite often, these customisation options centre on the most iconic periods in the console's over twenty year history, bringing legendary releases to the fore for the first time in a long time. Back home, I've gone with the original Xbox theme and just turning the console on offers a little bit of childhood nostalgia that makes the whole experience that much more memorable.

Happily, it doesn't look like the behemoth is stopping this approach to visual customisation any time soon, with a new dynamic background now out in the wild that honours legendary developer Rare on its 40th birthday.

Founded all the way back in 1985 by brothers Tim and Chris Stamper, Rare was one of the first developers to embrace consoles completely in the UK, predicting their popularity after an encouraging start in Japan. In the time since, they have created some of the best and most memorable characters in video games, remaining popular in a field that has changed massively over the last 40 years.

To celebrate four decades for arguably the most famous studio under the Xbox banner, Microsoft has released "a character-filled dynamic background" that brings legendary figures like Banjo and Conker to life.

The fun doesn't stop there though, with additional gamer pics available for those who want to go the whole way in their admiration for Rare and their cast of memorable characters. Also, who doesn't love free stuff?

The developer's swashbuckling adventure Sea of Thieves is also set to mark the occasion with limited time cosmetic bundles and offers, including a ruby hat designed to reflect this particular anniversary.

You have until 30 August to take advantage of the latter, when the game enters its Season 17 Community Weekend, marking a close to the celebrations.
