Tonight’s Xbox Developer Direct is officially underway, and it’s the first industry showcase of the year.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Xbox very handily announced what would be shown this evening ahead of time and it quickly became abundantly clear that a certain fedora and whip donning professor of archaeology would be stealing the spotlight. That’s right. We’ve finally got our first look at MachineGames’ upcoming Indiana Jones game, executively produced by Bethesda’s Todd Howard. When the game was announced, a cryptic image of Indy’s desk featured a book titled ‘Ancient Circle’ by none other than Todd Howard. Well, we now have confirmation that Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is the game’s title. That’s not all. The first trailer has dropped, featuring gameplay.

Take a look at Indiana Jones and The Great Circle in action below.

In terms of which platforms Indiana Jones and The Great Circle will be available on, it’s set to launch on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass, as expected. Via the gameplay, we also now know that the game will be a first-person perspective action-adventure - and yes, Indy still has the face of Harrison Ford for those who were concerned that it would be a new iteration.

Devs confirmed that in the wider Indy canon, The Great Circle falls between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Our favourite professor awakens one night to find an artefact has been stolen during a storm. Indy is curious to know why this particular artefact was chosen, sending us on a globetrotting journey.

While the game is played from a first-person perspective, it will switch to third-person during cutscenes and certain traversal segments, allowing you to take in that iconic silhouette with the whip and fedora. You’ll head to the Himalayas, the pyramids of Egypt, and more. Devs promise a “true cinematic” adventure and I believe them.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is set to launch this year, yes, really! For now, we only have the vague window of “later this year” but we’ll take it.
