An Xbox gamer on Reddit has noticed a subtle hardware change that hasn't gone down too well with the individual.

On 15 October 2024, Microsoft released the newly revised version of the Xbox Series X, by removing the disc drive and just like the original Series S, this new Xbox console is all-digital.

Unlike the original digital-only console, the new version’s design is inspired by the Xbox Series X and comes with 1TB of storage instead of 512GB. That being said, the new digital-only console shares the same white palette as its smaller predecessor.

However, there is a difference that has not crossed over from the original Xbox Series X and a gamer on Reddit is not too impressed by this change. It may be subtle, but once noticed, it cannot be unseen.

As spotted by Comicbook.com: “The digital Xbox Series X is missing something else besides the disk drive... No green grill. Bummer,” exclaimed Saint_Roger.

It’s not like it’s a feature that can be seen all the time (unless you’re standing over the Series X) but the iconic black and green Xbox colours compliment the console's grill and the Reddit thread has been discussing its exclusion.

Judging by the thread, it seems that most would agree that the white Xbox Series X looks better without the green. That being said, the design choice as to why this decision was made, remains a mystery.

“It looks better without the green in my opinion,” replied timmu with SmiffieSmiff adding “It honestly looks better this way.”

“Honestly, green on white would have looked weird. Black accents look cleaner,” said TechsupportThrw.

“If it glowed green or had streaks illuminated, then fine, but it looks alright the way it is,” suggests SHEEEESH_KABAB.

“Literally, unplayable,” jokes tman2damax11.

The new Xbox Series X (1TB) digital-only and Xbox Series X (2TB with a disc drive) are available now wherever you buy your console hardware.
