The Elder Scrolls major free download available now, but you don't have long

Elder Scrolls fans who haven’t tried the MMO game can give it a go at no additional cost thanks to a free-play event.

Elder Scrolls fans who haven’t tried the MMO game can give it a go at no additional cost thanks to a free-play event.

The Elder Scrolls is arguably Bethesda’s most successful IP, closely followed by Fallout which will be the first to receive a live-action adaptation via an upcoming TV series.

While fans have been relentlessly replaying The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and even some of the earlier titles thanks to modded remasters, it’s all being done as a way to pass the time until The Elder Scrolls VI comes out.

Development for the game is currently in full-swing following an announcement from Bethesda during the IP's 30th anniversary celebrations.

With that in mind, it might interest players that the MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online, is currently free-to-play for new players, but only for a limited time.

That’s right PC, PlayStation and Xbox users can download the game for free until 9 April, upon which they’ll have access to just about everything the base game has to offer, as well as some DLC.

The Elder Scrolls Online gives players complete freedom over their own adventure, meaning you can explore by yourself, join up with other players to form a faction, or take on a number of roles within the world.

It’s received several expansions over the years and remains a highly-popular title amongst fans, so it’s worth checking out if you’re a fan of multiplayer.

At the time of writing it’s unclear if The Elder Scrolls VI will have any multiplayer elements or whether it’ll remain a solely single player experience like previous entries.

That being said, Bethesda exec Todd Howard is confident the game will keep players occupied for at least a decade, so it’s clearly being developed with longevity in mind.

In the meantime though don’t miss out on your chance to play The Elder Scrolls Online for free, on PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
