The Last of Us Meets Resident Evil In Gorgeous Horror You Can’t Miss

Infected and Zombies - and now, Dusters

If you’re a fan of survival horrors, you’re likely going to want to add The Road of Dust and Sorrow to your wishlist.

Developed by Painted Black Games and set to be published by Silver Lining Interactive, The Road of Dust and Sorrow is an upcoming “story-driven, atmospheric thriller with pixel-art graphics and survival-horror elements”, described by developers as, “Short, intense, and unforgettable.”

“Humanity has shattered,” the synopsis teases.

“A remedy engineered to end hunger came at a devastating cost, twisting people into feral Dusters — ravenous addicts ruled by primal instinct.

“Ten years later, a mother and daughter wander in the ruins of civilisation, clinging to a fragile hope for a better future.

“But their journey draws the gaze of an ominous preacher and his hollow-eyed flock. What hunts Katherine and Ava isn’t a cult — it’s something beyond reason: an ancient hunger that sees humans as fertile soil.”

If you’re a fan of The Last of Us or Resident Evil, I sense you’ll find something to latch onto here.

The Road of Dust and Sorrow has it all: a strong story, a leading duo, undead enemies, all set within a grisly landscape.

In fact, developers even cite Resident Evil as a key inspiration alongside Silent Hill.

Fight Through Decaying Streets

Players will need to fend off the game’s undead creatures, Dusters, finding key survival items in locked rooms.

“Every door could mean your salvation, or your end,” the game teases.

Of course, a key part of The Road of Dust and Sorrow is keeping young Ava alive.

“You can lose the world. You can’t lose her. Every step pulls you deeper into a place that wants you broken. No one will save you. But you can fight. You can run. And you can still try to reach Sanctuary.”

Little else has been revealed about the title’s gameplay at this stage, but I’m sure more will be unveiled as development progresses.

As mentioned above, The Road of Dust and Sorrow boasts a gorgeous pixel art style that really sets it apart from other games within this thematic realm.

It’s currently only targeting a PC release via Steam but hopefully, we could see the title land on consoles further down the line should its launch go well.

As for when it’s launching, there’s no set date just yet, but I’m sure devs would appreciate you adding this to your wishlist.

That way, you’ll be kept up to date on all future news.
