The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the greatest games of all-time, and really is the gold standard within the action-adventure genre.
While Breath of the Wild isn’t technically classed as an RPG, it does feature several RPG elements within its formula as players level up, customise their weapons, manage their inventory, and take to exploring a sprawling world.
You can’t, of course, play Breath of the Wild on PC, but you can check out Farever which is an RPG offering on PC storefront Steam that offers a similar feel.
Developed by Shiro Games, Farever launched earlier this month and sees players explore a “vast fantasy open world”.
“You’re no foretold hero, just one among many! Explore a vast open world of vibrant landscapes, alone or with allies, where dungeons, enemy camps, and curiosities lie scattered across the realm,” the synopsis reads.

“From forgotten temples to underwater caves, Siagarta is full of wonders waiting to be discovered.
“Look closely, and you’ll find treasures and equipment to guide you on your adventure!”
You can play through Farever either alone or with friends online, facing off against enemies or platforming through unexplored corners of the map.

In fact, the traversal is also very in keeping with Breath of the Wild as players can climb cliffs, venture into deep underground caverns, and glide above ravines.
The art style is somewhat similar too, offering a sort of colourful vibrancy that’s different to the photorealistic visuals many RPGs opt for.
There are multiple combat classes and hundreds of skill combinations so Farever really allows you to craft a fighting style that suits your preferences.
Throughout your journey, you’ll unlock rare items and craft new upgrades with players also able to master various professions.
“Whether you're forging the perfect sword or chasing ancient relics, your adventure will always reflect the path you have chosen,” devs tease.
Farever has launched in early access, so you should expect there to be some creases that need ironing out.
Unfortunately, there’s no free taster for this one but the RPG is reasonably priced. It holds an RRP of £16.99 but is available for £15.29 until 20 May.
Throughout the early access period, Farever seeks to add several new regions (The Peak of Obral and City of Ramberg), as well as new enemy factions, more dungeons and bosses, new world events, new activity types, and updated social features.
It all sounds rather promising despite the game’s mixed score on Steam.
“Great little game. Well worth the price point. Mechanics and combat feel really smooth for an indie MMO lite,” one positive review states.
“As a veteran MMO player, I must say this is incredible. Of course, some features lacking, some technical EA issues, but the core, the combat, the fluidity, the easiness and chill of the MMO is wow,” adds another.
It seems the negative reviews all refer to server crashing, so hopefully that’s something that devs can easily fix as soon as possible.
