Steam gamers can download and keep 8 free games right now, no catch

Which will you pick up first?

Steam is a wondrous cove of free treasures.

If you’re looking to game on a budget, it’s a great place to visit.

In fact, eight new free-to-play titles have landed on the storefront in recent days, and I’m here to guide you through what’s on offer.

As always, thank you to SteamGamesPC for bringing these to our attention.

I’ll begin with developer Imbrium’s Project Hailstorm, “a short story where you enter the shoes of a researcher sent to uncover the mysteries of a project abandoned deep within the Antarctic circle”.

Part walking simulator, part adventure title, there’s not a ton going on in terms of gameplay in this one but I have to say, the visuals look dazzling.

If it’s a creepy bite-sized experience you seek, I sense this immersive story will satisfy your cravings.

If you prefer RPGs, Anturi is a cosy offering in that realm.

Developed by Spore Games, this one will see you assume the role of a little cat by the name of Wikku who is forced to leave the safety of his homeland after his father fails to return from a resource-finding expedition.

You’ll journey to Anturi, learning new skills, uncovering various dangers, all whilst feeling the effects of a corruption that’s blighting the lands.

If you want something that’s low effort on your part, Relic Hunt is a clicker where you’ll simply earn coins that’ll help you “obtain rare items for your collection”.

I’m essentially taking that to mean that it’s a hoarding simulator.

Developer Team Tall Trees brings us End Transmission?, a narrative management game set shortly before the end of the world … ominous.

This one’s about enjoying the time you have left. You’ll play music, take calls, and help local townsfolk say goodbye to those they love.

As bleak as that sounds, it’s also kind of lovely - and I’ll be giving it a whirl.

Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play game that’s seen immense success.

If puzzle escape games are more your vibe, you may enjoy PEXIT 8, a spin-off of the Penguin Hotel series.

The goal here is simple: you need to escape from an endlessly looping hallway and you have eight chances to do so.

“A mixture of cuteness and fear” awaits and, uh, “penguins are after you”.

My fellow Brits may remember a game show by the name of Hole in the Wall. Well, Fit-Right-In is essentially that but a game.

In this title, you’ll have to squeeze through a series of varied shaped holes as walls zoom towards you.

Any card battler fans? I hear a couple of cheers. You’ll want to direct your attention towards Gear Games’ Arcane Rush.

“Construct your deck, summon formidable allies, and partake in strategic clashes against adversaries hailing from every corner of the realm,” teases the synopsis.

There are plenty of heroes to choose from, plus the game already boasts a ‘Positive’ review accolade on Steam.

Finally, there’s Sacrifices, a god game meets city builder.

In this one, you’ll assume the role of a leader of a mesoamerican village. Unsurprisingly, it’s your job to expand the village and help encourage its development all whilst dealing with the perils of jungle life.

You can seemingly punish your villagers for their insolence so I’m imagining that’s where the title comes in.

It looks pretty fun, I must admit. Like a jungle-ified Cult of the Lamb.

All of the above titles are available right now on Steam for free.
