Steam is running a new promotion celebrating turn-based RPGs and due to this, there are a bunch of free demos you can download and play today.

Every few weeks Steam will host a sale featuring lots of great games and for this slice of the RPG genre, there are plenty to enjoy.

Metaphor ReFantazio is a new turn-based RPG is coming from Atlus very soon.

You’d not go wrong with any of the following games, with each of them offering many hours of joy but the whole sale is a great way to pick up some bangers.

My personal favourite demo of the bunch has to be Octopath Traveler 2 which gives players the chance to explore and experience eight great stories across eight unique characters.

Each plays very differently from the others and features a path that will intertwine with all the others, some with a more subtle approach, others with bombastic events.

I’d never forgive myself if I didn’t tell you to check out Dragon Quest XI, a game that always deserves more players. Despite the series always churning out great games, Dragon Quest is yet to reach the heights of Final Fantasy in the West.

I’m an absolute sucker for inventory management and Backpack Hero focuses solely on that. You’ll rearrange your inventory constantly as you pick up new items and weapons, but each change impacts an ongoing turn-based fight.

In Stars and Time is a wonderfully magical experience with a unique visual approach of using black and white. A very special story awaits at the core of this brilliant indie gem.

Lastly, there’s the always fantastic X-COM which challenges you to tactical battles and nurturing your team to various successes.

It can be played simply or ratcheted up in difficulty by losing your team whenever they die in combat. It’s a well-loved game that has captured the hearts of millions of players.

It's well worth browsing the event's demos and deals to see if anything appeals to you.
