A free demo for one of the greatest superhero video games of all time is available to download right now for PC/Steam players.

There’s been some truly special superhero games over the years, with a phenomenal example being Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man, the sequel of which is being released later this year, with a potential Venom spin-off not too far behind…

Check out the trailer for Batman: Arkham Asylum below!

Years before Spidey’s PS4 and PS5 debut though, it was Batman who dominated the comic book video game genre, starting with Batman: Arkham Asylum, which can be played right now via a free demo on Steam.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is a love letter to all things Batman, and is still regarded as a 10/10 masterpiece in terms of game design and story. The premise was simple: lock the dark knight on an island with some of his most dangerous villains, and strap in for one of the longest nights of his crusading career.

It combined easy-to-learn, hard-to-master combat gameplay, with metroidvania-style exploration, requiring you to learn the layout of the island and plan your moves three steps ahead to defeat your opponents. The story was solid, the performances were masterful, and the gameplay was tightly refined and progressive to keep you interested from start to finish.

It received a remaster for Xbox, PlayStation and PC in 2016, and is even getting a Nintendo Switch port later this year, along with its sequels Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight.

If you’ve never played it before, primarily play on PC, and want to try the game out before you buy it, there’s good news. A free demo is available via Steam right now. All you have to do is head to the Steam StealhFest, scroll down to the bottom of the page, find Arkham Asylum and install the demo, simple.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is available on PC, Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and will be receiving a Nintendo Switch port later this year.
