Steam Drops 6 Completely Free Games We Can't Believe Cost Nothing

Some hidden gems here

Just because a game is free, that doesn’t equate to it being less worthy of your time.

In fact, I’d argue a free title is more worthy of your time as it’s not going to cost you a penny to enjoy.

Certainly, there are plenty of terrible titles out there, but there are plenty of terrible paid games too; you’ve just got to sift through to find the magic.

So today, I’d like to highlight six free-to-play games that have recently landed on PC storefront Steam that I believe are definitely worth a play.

I’ll begin with 50 Minutes ‘Til Impact, an adventure title from Atomic Baby Games.

Set within a retro-futuristic world aboard a space train, you’ll work through a linear narrative as you compete against the clock to stop a major catastrophe.

Gameplay consists of exploration and puzzle solving, plus there are some visual novel-inspired interactions.

It boasts 100% positive reviews at the time of writing.

“I really enjoyed this game. It’s not too long, probably around one to two hours for most players, but the story makes it absolutely worth the time,” one such review read.

If you want something to enjoy with friends, then maybe License to Grill is the game for you.

This one’s a third-person combat game that you can enjoy with up to eight people where your goal is to essentially cook your opponents.

You’ll engage in all-out kitchen warfare.

“Life changing experience,” declared one reviewer, while another added, “Peak.” Enough said.

If you’re a horror fan, then perhaps I can interest you in REDSHIFT.

Developed by Gravity Interactive, this is a psychological narrative horror where you’ll seek to uncover the secrets behind a facility known as Tower 7.

It’s all very dimly lit. Can you keep your nerve as something hunts you within the facility’s walls?

You should be able to complete this one in an hour or so.

“I don't do scary games as I'm a coward, but this was the perfect amount for me. Good amount of thrill/anxiety, while not using cheap jump scares for it. Really fun concept and well executed,” one player said.

Let’s go with something more wholesome next.

With My Little Eye is a hidden object game from Papa Koala; you simply have to find 50 kitties in a hand-drawn image, something you should be able to do in 20 minutes or so.

Players are loving it.

“Super chill, loved it! That last cat was very sneaky! Would love to see more levels,” one declared.

This next title is a hard one to pin down.

Goodbye from Amabird borrows from many genres, including adventure, walking sims, and even a little bit of horror.

“Welcome to the world of a sweet old lady, who is trying to reconnect with her granddaughter. Enjoy your cozy routine, like baking buns, feeding the birdies, and keeping your soul intact. Eventually, take care of an unexpected guest,” the synopsis reads.

That guest looks a lot like … death?

The experience can seemingly be wrapped up in around 20 minutes, with the game featuring “soothing music” and “immersive voice acting”.

This title also boasts 100% positive reviews.

“A lovely and simple short story that will resonate with most of us. It’s clear how much heart went into this game, and despite the occasional bug here and there (the door is the final boss), the passion behind it speaks louder,” one reviewer began.

“In just 20 minutes, it made me feel more than many multi-million dollar budget games ever could. This is what video games should be about, and I highly recommend this story to everyone,” they continued. High praise indeed.

I’ll finish with Haus of Irndrous, the only title on this list not to have any reviews, but something about it has caught my eye.

It’s part action-adventure, part horror.

“Welcome to the Afgarn Mansion. Don’t ask why it’s empty. Nor why the lights flicker. The more you ask, the more they’ll want to answer. Find your father. If you hear voices, don’t respond. The experiments are still inside. They know you entered. And they’re eager to have you close,” it teases.

There’s an 80s feel about the experience and it’s interesting having something so dark and eerie set within what was a vibrant era.

Of course, these are just my personal free picks; there are tons of games out there.

But hopefully, this will provide you with a nice place to start.
