Did someone order four new free-to-play games on PC storefront Steam? I sure hope the answer is ‘yes’ as that’s exactly what I have to deliver.
As always, thank you to SteamGamesPC for bringing these to our attention.
Let’s begin the usual process of sifting out the hidden gems.
I’ll begin with Unknown Fluffy Object as this one already has secured a perfect 100% review score from players, correct at the time of writing.

From Vancouver Film School, this game is a third-person puzzle title where you’ll play as Buddy the sheepdog.
Your goal is simple; you need to herd sheep across rivers, cliffs, and the rolling hills of Scotland while using your mighty bark to fend off UFOs.
It’s most definitely what I’d class as a cosy game.
It looks beautiful, has a simple yet moreish gameplay loop, and a charming little soundtrack.

“Super cute and relaxing game, loved running around playing with the sheep!” wrote one player.
The Last Shores also seems to be impressing players.
This is a “chill solar-punk adventure” from Black Frog Studio.
It’s up to you to clean and explore an island, uncovering its lost secrets and restoring harmony.

You’ll play as freshly graduated biologist Tal who has been sent to the island as part of a one-year internship with the goal being to restore it to its former glory.
Players will collect and recycle waste, repair wind turbines, care for animals, and uncover treasure.
Again, it’s most definitely one for the cosy gaming fans.
“You know, for a free game, that was quite decent. I can see a lot of passion went into this,” reads one positive review.

This is where things take a bit of a turn.
Next up is Word Maker which hasn’t dazzled players quite as much.
It comes from RandomSeed Works and is described as a “relaxing game where you can test how much English words you know”.
There’s no review consensus but one player does warn of several issues.

“There is currently not enough here to warrant this being a 'fun' experience,” they began.
“The UI doesn't have basic qualities (like labels), the bugs include not being able to open the rewards from the quests (rebooting the game seemed to be the only way to reset this) and therefore being logged out of the 'automation' elements of the game, and the 'gameplay' loop is artificially limited by a cooldown each time you type a word.”
It sounds like the devs need to do a tad more work, but the game is there if you really want to give it a go.
Finally, you can now try out The Trench from Error707Studios which is a post-WWI horror game that centres around a soldier revisiting the trench he was stationed at.
You’ll uncover the truth of exactly what it is that went down there.
It’s a first-person title and from what I can gather, gameplay consists of simple exploration.
Unfortunately, players are a bit disappointed with this one.
“How it ran was the scariest part of the incoherent asset flip of a story,” reads one review.
That’s your lot. Two potential cosy hits, two misses. I don’t think that’s a bad result.
